Beaver Valley FCU is proud of its service to the community. Below are details of some recent events in which we have participated. ________________________________________ NATIONAL CREDIT UNION YOUTH WEEK
Again this year, Beaver Valley FCU invited parents and children, through age 18, to stop by either credit union office to participate in the Savings Challenge. By making a deposit to a child's account (or open a new one) during the month of April, they were entered in a drawing for a chance to win a $100 US Savings bond - four lucky winners were drawn!! Cameron – age 6; Nathan – age 12, Madison – age 15 and Clifford age 17. Refreshments and give-aways were distributed on Friday, April 23. A hoops game and golfing area were set up for the young members. Nationally, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) reported that the Savings Challenge resulted in 168,400 young member visits with deposits totaling $25 million at the 350 participating credit unions. They also reported that more than 10,300 new youth accounts were opened! It is the goal of this program to help credit unions build strong relationships with their youth and their families. The Board of Directors and employees of BVFCU are looking forward to having a role in next year's event. ________________________________________
For several years, the staff at BVFCU have participated in the Adopt a Family for Christmas program held by Lifesteps, Inc. in Brighton Township. Each year, Lifesteps asks local organizations to give gifts to a local family in need. We were supplied with the gender, age and clothing size of each family member. The credit union took up a collection among the staff to purchase gifts for the family. ________________________________________
Each year, in conjunction with the Bridgewater Light-up Night, our Bridgewater Office hosts Santa Land. The office is decorated for Christmas, and children are encouraged to visit Santa in the lobby where they receive a Santa treat. Visitors may purchase a picture of their child with Santa. The proceeds benefit the Bridgewater Residential Committee. The most recent Light-up Night was held on November 21, 2009. ________________________________________ INTERNATIONAL CREDIT UNION DAY
For over 50 years, credit unions have set aside the third Thursday in October to celebrate International Credit Union Day. Each year, it gives us an opportunity to remember our proud history as we promote understanding and support for the credit union difference.
________________________________________ ANNUAL DUCKY DERBY RACE For the fourth year, BVFCU sponsored the Annual Ducky Derby Race held during the Bridgewater Beaver County River Regatta on Saturday, August 15, 2009. Prizes in the amounts of $200, $100 and $50 were awarded to the owners of the "adoption certificates" of the first three ducks to cross the finish line. Proceeds benefited the Bridgewater Community Development. ________________________________________ AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY Twenty-two employees from Beaver Valley FCU participated in the American Cancer Society's 2009 Relay for Life at Brady's Run Park. Beaver Valley FCU was a corporate sponsor again this year. Team BVFCU sold pulled pork sandwiches and had a bake sale at the tent site decorated as The Pirates of the Caribbean in keeping with the Relay's movie theme. Teams were to have a participant on the track constantly for the 24-hour period. The team also participated in the survivor butterfly release and the luminary candle walk ceremony. The credit union raised more than $3,500 for the American Cancer Society.

For the 5th straight year, Beaver Valley FCU has participated in the Bridgewater Police Department Bicycle Safety Program. The 7th annual program was held on Saturday, June 17, 2006. The event is held to increase the awareness and importance of children wearing bicycle helmets, and the overall safety of children.
The Bridgewater Police Department fitted children with free helmets. Booths were setup by other area businesses to promote children’s safety. As in past years, Beaver Valley Federal Credit Union donated four children’s bicycles that were given away in a special drawing.
