NATIONAL CREDIT UNION YOUTH WEEK

Money Rocks at My Credit Union was the theme for National Credit Union Youth Week, April 17-23, 2011.

Beaver Valley FCU invited parents and children, through age 17, to stop by either credit union office to participate in the Savings Challenge.  By making a deposit to a child’s account (or open a new one) during the month of April, they were entered in a drawing for a chance to win a $100 US Savings bond – four lucky winners were drawn!!  Trent – age17; Brittany – age 15; Frederick – age 15; and Mason – age 1.

Refreshments and give-aways were distributed on Friday, April 22.  Young members also had a chance to “Guess how many Pennies” were in the jar. 

Nationally, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) reported that the Savings Challenge resulted in 146,000 young member visits with deposits totaling 28.5 million at the 305 participating credit unions.  They also reported that more than 9,000 new youth accounts were opened!

It is the goal of this program to help credit unions build strong relationships with their youth and their families.  The Board of Directors and employees of BVFCU are looking forward to having a role in next year’s event.

INTERNATIONAL CREDIT UNION DAY

More than 186 million people worldwide share in the same thing – Credit Union membership. What a reason to celebrate! International Credit Union Day was established to do just that… to celebrate our accomplished history, our shared values, and our bright future with members worldwide.

Thousands of credit unions set aside the third Thursday of October to raise awareness about the great work credit unions are doing and to express appreciation to their members. On October 20, 2011, Beaver Valley FCU did just that.

Both credit union offices expressed their thanks to our members, and gave out free canvas tote bags in order to make the credit union spirit last throughout the year.
