ANNUAL DUCKY DERBY RACE
BRIDGEWATER BEAVER COUNTY RIVER REGATTA

For the third year, BVFCU sponsored the Annual Ducky Derby Race held during the Bridgewater Beaver County River Regatta on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Prizes in the amounts of $250, $150 and $100 (two winners each) were awarded to the owners of the "adoption certificates" of the first three ducks to cross the finish line. Proceeds benefited the Bridgewater Community Development.

During the Ducky Derby Race, the credit union gave children duck "tattoos" and passed out coin saving holders with the first quarter included. Tote bags were also distributed to spectators in which some of the bags contained a Presidential $1 Coin.

We look forward to seeing you next year!

NATIONAL CREDIT UNION YOUTH WEEK

Beaver Valley Federal Credit Union participated in our first National Credit Union Youth Week which is sponsored by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). This year's theme was "Got Green? Grow it at your Credit Union".

Youth Week was held April 21-25, 2008 with office festivities on Friday, April 25th. Every Youth member making a deposit during the week was entered in a drawing to win one of four $100 US Savings Bonds.

Nationally, CUNA reported that 395 credit unions participated in the Youth Week Savings Challenge with 75,420 youth making deposits totaling $11,775,163,03. They also reported that a total of 6,583 new youth accounts were opened!

It is the goal of this program to help credit unions build strong relationships with their youth and their families. The Board of Directors and employees of BVFCU are proud to have had a role in this year's successful event.

Next year's event is scheduled for April 19-25, 2009.

SANTA LAND

Each year, in conjunction with the Bridgewater Light-up Night, our Bridgewater Office hosts Santa Land. The office is decorated for Christmas, and children are encouraged to visit Santa in the lobby where they receive a Santa treat. Visitors may purchase a picture of their child with Santa. The proceeds benefit the Bridgewater Residential Committee.

The most recent Light-up Night was held on November 17, 2007.

INTERNATIONAL CREDIT UNION DAY

For over 50 years, credit unions have set aside the third Thursday in October to celebrate International Credit Union Day. Each year, it gives us an opportunity to remember our proud history as we promote understanding and support for the credit union difference.

As in past years, on October 18, 2007, Beaver Valley FCU thanked its member’s for being a part of the credit union difference. Both our Beaver Falls and Bridgewater offices provided refreshments, balloons and a children’s coloring activity for those who visited us that day.

The event is held to increase the awareness and importance of children wearing bicycle helmets, and the overall safety of children.

LIFESTEPS ADOPT A FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS

For several years, the staff at BVFCU participated in the Adopt a Family for Christmas program held by Lifesteps, Inc. in Brighton Township. Each year, Lifesteps asks local organizations to give gifts and non-perishable items to a local family in need. We were supplied with the gender, age and clothing size of each family member. The credit union took up a collection among the staff to purchase gifts for the family.
